An alleged would-be jewelry thief found himself charged Monday with felony retail theft, a good deal more serious than the shoplifting ticket he expected to receive.

Dominique C. Franklin, 22, of Madison, ran out of Condon Jewelers at East Towne Mall on Saturday with a diamond engagement ring set valued at $11,950, but store owner Jim Nielsen chased him down, tackled him outside the mall's food court entrance and got the ring set back, according to a criminal complaint filed Monday.

"Yeah, dude tackled me and I gave back his rings, so can I get a ticket?" Franklin asked Officer Jason Ramirez, the complaint states.

Franklin, who is on probation for prior felony convictions, remained in the Dane County Jail after appearing in court on Monday.

Madison's Parks Division is holding its first-ever Kids to Kids Garage Sale from 9 a.m. to noon Sat., Aug. 7, on the 100 Block of Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd.

"It's kids actually running the garage sale. It's their own items," said Laura Whitmore, spokeswoman for the Madison Parks Division. "They will be selling toys and games and dress-up attire — things that are theirs — just like a regular garage sale. But it's actually kids who will be running it."

University of Wisconsin re-designs its website

It's been 5 years in the making... the University of Wisconsin has re-designed their website.

The new look is cleaner and easier to read then previous versions.  Web design nerds (like ourselves) will be happy to know that the new layout utilizes the 960 Grid System which makes the best use of space on modern computer monitors and standardizes content.

Additionally, social media outlets are more prominent (Facebook, twitter, YouTube, etc).

A 22-year-old downtown resident was so ticked off at the loud bar crowd next door he grabbed a bow and arrow and went out to confront the most boorish of the brood, Madison police reported.

Unfortunately for the modern day Robin Hood, the bow and arrow was disturbing to others, with police being called and an officer eventually drawing his gun at the archer before citing him for disorderly conduct.
