MILWAUKEE - Bead by tiny bead, volunteers assembled bracelets in Bartolotta's high-end Bacchus restaurant dining room Saturday morning.

Natalie Czarkowski, a manager with the restaurant group, believes the colorful jewelry will make a difference for Haitian children.

"I can't tell you how much I appreciate this," she told a group of high school girls.

Natalie and her family volunteered at a Port-au-Prince orphanage only weeks before the earthquake. She bathed sick children and repaired wheelchairs.

The sale of orange Packers caps raised more than $100,000 for hunger relief, the Packers organization said Monday, but who should the money go to?

The Green Bay Packers are now taking applications for hunger relief organizations serving Wisconsin to receive those funds.

The Packers hope to split the money among 25 to 30 organizations. Beneficiaries will be announced in late February.

The "Hunting Down Hunger" caps were the latest in a series of fund-raising Packers caps, starting in 2005 with pink caps for breast cancer groups, inspired by Deanna Favre.

The pioneer spirit shown in "Little House on the Prairie" lives on.

The cast from the musical, which is currently playing at the Overture Center, will be swinging hammers instead of singing songs on Thursday, helping to build a Habitat for Humanity house on Madison's east side.

Melissa Gilbert, who gained fame as Laura in the TV series in the 1970s and now plays Ma in the stage musical, will lead the cast and crew in working on the house being constructed at 3505 Ridgeway Avenue.

The special build event, scheduled to start at 10 a.m. Thursday, is part of a 26-city housebuilding schedule, done in conjunction with the musical tour, where cast members have been building with local Habitat affiliates and their families.

The musical runs through Sunday at the Overture Center.

At the end of the tour this spring, a minimum of $1,500 will be donated from the musical to Habitat affiliates in each of the show's tour markets.

Small Town Church Raises Awareness for Heart Disease by Skydiving

10,000-FT FREEFALL WITH NOTHING BUT FAITH
(and a parachute) FOR PROTECTION? NO PROBLEM!!!
(Small-town church raising big-time awareness with local tandem skydive project)

Many people make their first skydive to challenge themselves or seek thrills, but not so many jump to raise awareness for a personal cause. On Saturday, July 11th, a group of jumpers sponsored by First Lutheran Church of rural Poy Sippi will take on this challenge. Each participant has agreed to take part in a tandem skydive to provide hope for others, while strengthening their own personal faith. The goal of J3 - Jumping with Jesus in July is simple: to raise awareness about life-changing social, economic, or health-related concerns that plague our community today and to make known the help that is readily available, but often forgotten. Much like those that are struggling with their own “freefall” in life, whether it be an illness, a loss of a loved one, a financial burden or some other personal struggle, the J3 team plans to raise awareness about these issues while experiencing their own freefall… literally.

Fundraising will be achieved through sponsorships of individual skydivers that will be "jumping for a cause.” Jumpers are asking friends, co-workers and family members to financially sponsor their jump with all proceeds benefitting the charitable organization of each jumper’s choice. All pledge money will be pooled and divided evenly between the charities/causes. If a particular contributor wants to be certain their money goes to a specific cause, we will note that on the pledge sheet and make sure that happens.
