Black bear takes stroll around Stevens Point

Posted on May 27, 2011

A bear spotted in Stevens Point was driven north of town Thursday afternoon, according to the Stevens Point Police Department.

Sgt. Paul Piotrowski said the animal was spotted in the morning at the corner of Fifth and Forest streets and was spotted as far south as the Pfiffner building at Pfiffner Pioneer Park at about 2 p.m.

Austin Korger, 28, of Plover, was on his way back to work after taking a walk on his lunch break with two others when they spotted the black bear on the trail near the boat landing at Bukolt Park.

After waiting a bit, the animal ran into a neighborhood, but reappeared again near Pfiffner Pioneer Park, where it jumped into a tree, Korger said.

In case you didn't know... Don't feed hungry bears

Posted on April 26, 2011

Don’t feed the bears. That’s what the state DNR is telling Wisconsinites as black bears wake up from hibernation.

Officials say the bears will scrounge around garbage cans, grills, and bird-feeders to look for food – and it’s illegal for people to feed them. The DNR urges people to take down their bird feeders, even during the day – and to rinse empty food cans to reduce odors before tossing them in the garbage.

Officials say trash cans should be kept in closed buildings, and pet food should be kept indoors. If someone sees a bear near their house, the DNR advises trying to scare it away by making noise and waving their arms.

Experts say people should take care not to corner a bear – to make sure they have an escape route. They say if a person meets a bear in the wood, they should slowly back away.

Trap set for bear seen wandering through Marshfield [video]

Posted on April 21, 2011

Like clockwork, a young black bear has been ambling into the backyard of Randell Kruger's home in the 400 block of West Park Street at 8 p.m. for the past two weeks.

"He's here until 9 or 10 or so. He used to eat all the bird seed. Now he just hangs out because the feeders are gone," Kruger said.

On Wednesday morning, a trap was set in the Krugers' backyard because the bear has become a neighborhood nuisance, said Barry Benson, a Wildlife Damage Specialist with the Wildlife Services of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Posted on January 6, 2011

Doctor
Post this as your status if you know someone who suffers from being a Chicago Bears fan. Being a Bears fan is a real disorder and should be taken seriously. There is no known cure for BFD and sympathy alone does not help...but we can raise awareness. 100% of Packers fans will repost this...simply because we know how to copy and paste. Go Packers!!!
