At the time Oregon was founded, this town seven miles from state capital Madison had more horses than people (and it still hosts an annual horse parade). But now nearly 10,000 people call this affordable community home, many drawn by the solid schools. Like lots of towns in Wisconsin, Oregon is not very racially diverse, but there is some religious diversity: the Deer Park Buddhist Center and Monastery is located here. It’s headed by a Tibetan professor who taught at the nearby University of Wisconsin-Madison for three decades.
