Waunakee 2-year-old to appear on Frank's Sauerkraut cans

Posted on January 5, 2011

Hailey Bull’s love for shredded, fermented cabbage has carried her far in her early years of eating solid food: It’s given her an adventurous palate and kept her eating her vegetables.

And at age 2, it’s earned her a spot on the Frank’s Sauerkraut label.

“I’ve never met anyone that young that can stomach the stuff,” said her father Brian Bull, a lover of the briny topping himself, who first gave Hailey sauerkraut atop a brat last year.

“She put it in her mouth and didn’t spit it out,” he said. Then she asked for more.

Hailey is one of three people chosen so far as part of the “Frank’s Friends” program inviting sauerkraut lovers to submit photos of themselves enjoying the product, based in Fremont, Ohio..

The Bulls learned that Hailey was chosen for the label in mid-September, but the cans carrying her smiling face won’t hit store shelves until February. And being selected is the only reward; there’s no prize money or free sauerkraut.

Is four pets too many? Waunakee reconsiders pet limit law

Posted on October 15, 2010

When a barking dog complaint brought Waunakee police to Robyn Lebron’s home in July, officers learned she had four pets — one more than the village allows.

Not ready to give up cat Gabby or one of three dogs, Natasha, Cleo, and Gizmo, Lebron fought the law and was granted a temporary reprieve. Now village officials are reconsidering the pet limit ordinance that has been in place since the 1980s.

“We thought, why not take a look at the whole dog gone thing,” said Village President John Laubmeier. “We wanted to be as fair with her as we possibly could.”

For her part, Lebron, who could still be forced to surrender one of her pets, said she and her husband never considered pet limits when they moved to Waunakee from Madison about five years ago.

Lisa Pertzborn-Whiting created recyclable wall clings which use Disney movie characters and can be moved around by kids. Long gone will be the days of kids taping, stapling and push-pinning pictures to decorate their walls.

Now kids can re-use these posters and clings to decorate their rooms like they are giant Colorforms!

Pertzborn-Whiting is one of 10 winners in this years nationwide Make Mine a Million $ Business competition. Congrats to her as she is the only contestant from Wisconsin!
